Now that season has finished does anyone know what happens or is happening with Mathers? Does he have to come back to Cas to train or does he stay at Wakey in the hope a deal is sorted (which i think will happen ) ? just wondering how it works thats all.

I'm sure he'll stay at Wakefield as he does seem happy there.

Wakey have offered him a deal, the stumbling block is getting anywhere near the wages he got at Cas, he will have to decide if he wants to continue playing for a that wage.



I understand that he is well thought of and is a role model to all the younger players and a true Pro to have around the club.



Not Richies biggest fan and never have been but i can't find anyone who will say a bad word about him at the club.

Or take a chunk of your cap next season when there is clearly a breakdown between him and the coach, I would expect some negotiations where he gets released from his Cas contract with some financial compensation, that said I am no agent or financial advisor just how I see it in the world of contracts. The situation to me though does seem to put us in the driving seast with Cas if a deal is to be struck.

Enlighten me, how does it possibly put you in the driving seat when you are incredibly desperate to get him?

I suppose what he meant was, you don't want him back and certainly don't want to pay his wages, these could be better spent elsewhere, that puts you in a bad position, whereas we could get a fullback from anywhere.

We don't have to have Mathers and we certainly only want him on our terms.

Why on earth would Cas expect compensation for a player they clearly don't want?

Would be interesting if we just said to Ritchie, "nah, your staying here this season". Then arranged for Basil & Ritchie to be locked in a room together for a day. If it doesn't work, then no dramas, we've got the model pro in Jordan Tansey ready & waiting.

Because he's still under contract so if you want him you pay for him, even if it's just a Mars bar.

Mini Mars bar, what you say is true but we could send him back and you could pay him, is it 90k well spent.

Transfer fee. He's still under contract and Cas could almost certainly use him in the team.
