I;m not sure what constitues a spear exactly.
But scrutons against saints in 08 is probably the worst one you will see recently.
His legs were raised above the horizontal, but he landed on his back not his head.
In any case it don't think it warranted sending off.

It wasn't a spear tackle it was a dangerous throw off the ball.
Similar to one Gareth Hock carried out on Matt Diskin in the FE game in 2007 for which Hock was put on report by Ganson (not one to send anyone off, when they are facing Leeds.) Hock received a two match ban at the disciplinary.
