It was a similar incident to Austin's and he got a yellow followed by a ban so who knows?
Find it odd that incidents like that are deemed yellow cos the player has passed the ball but when a player kicks the ball defenders can run into the kicker or grab the kicker late and nobody bats an eyelid.
But thems the rules, we know a late tap on a passer is a yellow and we never seem to learn. We will go to Wigan, play with 12 for 20 mins and all talk about the effort and spirit we put in. Its time we smartened up.

And repeat. Dwyer will get a ban because that's how the RFL is reinforcing its policing of late hits this year. Judging by this weekend's games some coaches understand this. Others remain entrenched in "but what about" territory.

The problem with the disciplinary giving a ban the following week, is why wasn't he sent off? It was suggested the ref didn't get a good look at the Austin one because he was concentrating on the tackle that followed. Fair enough, but what's the excuse this week. The officials saw it, it was on the screen and the 4th official presumably had an input. The reason that he wasn't sent off is because not a single person in the stadium thought it worthy of a red card. To then get a ban would be ridiculous. But I would not be surprised tbh.

| I have an impossible dream that one day we may be able to pick a team from a fit and healthy full squad.

If the Dwyer incident is the bench mark so be it. Unfortunately I can see some referees not having the courage to implement the rule.
I think the Dwyer sin bin was instrumental in us losing the game. We used up a massive amount of energy with just 11 players.

I completely agree that the Dwyer sin bin had a major impact but who do you blame for that?

There’s no one to blame other than the player IMO. They know the rules.
There’s an argument to he had though that if a late tackle is going to be an automatic ban then its should be a red car offence at the time.
I 100% understand why they are wanting those tackles out of the game, it’s going yo be difficult though because a sport played as fast and hard as RL it is sometimes very hard for a player to pull out of a tackle, it will be s very contentious issue all season.
Fwiw I don’t think dwyer will cop a ban, it looked to me like dwyer couldn’t actually see clearly that the wire player had passed the ball has he was behind him when he tackled him.
I also don’t think Bentleys ban will be as bad as people think, the justification the ref gave was that it was with a clenched fist. It wasn’t. It was reckless and deserved a red.

I don’t attach blame to anyone. As a former player (amateur) failed to make the professional grade. Things happen in the heat of the moment. Thought the sin bin was harsh, although a penalty was justified. If that’s the benchmark I am ok with that ,but that law has to apply consistently throughout the season. I doubt that Will happen, but we will shall see. Looking at the expression on Holmes’ face I think he thought he was on a red card. I await with interest to view the next Dwyer type situation and see what the referees decision will be.

This maybe hyperbole, but I genuinely think that the number of injuries in SL is one of the biggest issues the game in this country needs to address. Every team seems to have at least 4 or 5 of their first team players missing every week, lots of players hardly ever have a full pre season because they're recovering from a post season op. We need to do more to get players on the pitch as often as possible, simply dismissing it at 'injuries are part of the game' seems lazy to me.

Fair comment, probably just my imagination ,but along with Hull we seem to suffer over the last few years more injuries than most clubs.

The only semblance of consistency will come from the panel. In almost 50 years of watching the game, I've never seen 100% consistency from referee to referee. Often it's been far less. My guess is that some on field decisions will continue to baffle all but that most late or high shots will cop a ban once it goes before the panel. Not perfect by any means but I think it's as good as we'll get.

Should think what’s driving this latest clamp down on head shots is the growing amount of claims regarding early onset dementia and dementia itself. Obviously as employers both the club’s and rugby league have to show a duty of care to players. Quite obviously in the past this hasn’t happened. Rugby Union has also embarked on a similar course of action. The one major difference is the Union brigade ,have quite rightly clamped down on shoulder hits more severely than league . Seemed to be a few shoulder’s hits yesterday.
