When was the last time McGuire was dropped when fully fit, despite some mediocre showings over the last couple of years? You could argue that the lack of alternatives has hamstrung the coach in previous seasons. That is clearly no longer the case.



I still think it's too early for Lilley. I'd like to see how he goes in open age rugby, maybe out in Champ One on loan somewhere the defences are a bit more wise and there are old heads who will try to take him off his game. Let him get some confidence under his belt of knowing he can cut it against "grown-ups" before moving him into SL.



As I said previously, McGuire looks a better player with Sinfield off the field. Do you sacrifice the captain's goal-kicking to bring Sutcliffe into the side, particularly when one of your other kicking options is currently busier doing house calls in Burley at 3am rather than concentrating on his game?

Of the 'golden triumvirate' I have always previously advocated dispensing with McGuire first but at least he can still offer the possibilities of sometimes putting in a decent killer cut out/long pass ....I have to concede I am now becoming another who must question Sinfield's automatic selection. It's hard to conceive of a leeds side without its great captain when available, but of the 3 he might be just the one that should make way for Sutcliffe next match.



We will succed to a decent level this season despite "dad's army" if only because SL standards are anything but improving. Apart from Westwood there was nobody I would covet to any large degree from Warrington's performance last night.



You do have to wonder what Mulhern couldn't do that Kylie does in his 10 minute spells and it is becoming ever more obvious that both our pensioner props should be playing their last season. It is sad to see their decline

Maybe they can both raise their games for the odd match but on a week to week basis neither shoud be first choice any more. The transition and rebuilding should start with Singleton, Delaney and Cuthbertson being the starting props includng '3rd prop' at LF.

Anyone remember Daryl Powell holding his hands up, and actually telling the coaching team that we had better options for stand off than him, and he was finding it tough in the role at the stage of his career.



Of course Harris was the other option, but still that epitomised Powell.



To be fair to Sinny, he has already told the club he plans to retire at end of 2016, hence the Hardaker plans, but maybe it is catching up quicker than he thought.

Fair point about McGuire - personally I would like to see the young players brought the first team route rather than being farmed out to clubs where their participation is begrudged at best. At least the senior players should have a vested interest in protecting and guiding them something they will not get at the South Leeds Stadium.



It never did the members of the golden generation any harm and it could be argued they were being exposed to a much higher standard than the youngsters of today.

Let's hope the wheels don't come off that plan over the next few weeks.

My view on last night performance.



I believe that we lost because of Moon’s premature departure. It disrupted our attacking options, defensive pattern and over all game plan.



Golding did well for his debut but was found out of position a couple of times and he has to realise he’s not in the U19’s anymore, sometimes the pass is a much better option than trying to dance round a very organised and effective defence.



A couple of really good kicks aside, Burrow didn’t offer much in attack and I’m starting to think that we might have better a better option in Sutcliffe.



Wire’s defence was one of the best I’ve seen for a while and I doubt that may teams would have put more than a handful of points past them.

A few thoughts:



Wire deserved it, very committed in defence. Ben Westwood was magnificent.

Bentham was not magnificent but I can live with his performance. His decision to penalise Singleton was easily understandable even if he was incorrect.

Video refs are sh_it, improve the game by dispensing with them entirely.



Ash G did fine; his physical resemblance to BJB is maybe too close for comfort though and I expect there'll be defensive frailty somewhere down the line. Hope I'm wrong.



Aiton is doing the business and needs as much game time as poss. If Burrow is to play, let him come on from the bench for either Sinfield or McGuire, whichever happens to be playing worst. Or not come on at all if both are performing.



I understand the criticism of Peacock. Don't write him off just yet - do you really think our conditioners are daft enough to have him at peak fitness this early in the season??



Singleton is a revelation. Watkins looks twice the player he did for large parts of last season and both wingers look sharp.



As many have noted, wire were a cut above last night. Fear not; in super league a good performance is usually only the precursor of a horror show. We've as good a chance as anyone of trophies this year.

Victory over Phil Clarke's bum boys next week and last night will be forgotten, another defeat though, and people will be getting flashbacks to last season and our dismal record against the big teams in the weekly rounds. Our kicking game last night was again poor, 5 out of 6 kicks in the first half claimed in the air unchallenged, unacceptable if we have any pretentions to win anything. Sinny will only be getting in the team for his place kicking and reputation alone unless he can improve, and his choice and quality of pass will pretty soon get a team mate killed, McGuire is streets ahead in that respect. We missed Achurch offensively when chasing the game, neither Ward, JJB or Delaney have his bulk or dexterity from second row, and we obviously missed Zak in attack. Wire weren't fantastic, but we're good enough and made the best of the 50/50's in their favour. Bring on the pie munchers.
