| Quote Andy Gilder="Andy Gilder"I suspect it may be a "cost" in terms of officers taken away from other duties to police these demos.'" Yes, they're not earning cash by issuing fixed penalty notices to drivers, chavs, drug addicts and litterers.
Fancy having to actually police something where public order might be an issue. Where's the profit in that?
And El Diablo is correct. Sporting events and such pay for the police presence.

They can pay for it out of the Bin men pot from council tax contributions.

If the average copper earns £15 an hour you could have 8000 coppers for 6 hours plus plenty left over for admin.

They pay for any police resources that are used on their property (ie, inside the ground).
The clubs don't pay for traffic management, policing in rail stations (just look at the operation when the Millwall supporters arrive from Kings Cross) or any "football related violence" that happens outside the ground.

Im assuming the £800,000 figure is in addition to how much it would cost for normal policing on a regular Saturday. You would imagine quite a lot of them would be on overtime, and presumably there would have been police horses, dogs and vehicles that aren't usually used.

How much do horses & dogs get paid, do they have a union?

I hope not otherwise they might end up on strike.
But Im assuming their handlers/riders get paid more than regular policemen and so the cost would rise again, plus the vehicles required to get them where theyre needed.

CEU: Canine and Equine Union. There is talk of it being disbanded and lumping them in with the GMB as Brussels has made thinly veiled threats over the use of the EU part of their acronym.

| Expect plenty of non WY Police coppers to be on duty in Leeds too. I suspect the cost will be inflated by having to pay for mutual aid.

| Police dogs actually do get paid, its not much, and it goes to their handler who looks after it for them until they are old enough to spend it and not waste it on things like sausages from the butchers, that sort of thing.
They also get free food, free housing, free healthcare and some of them get free boots especially the drug search dogs who might step on something nasty in a dealers house - not forgetting that the drug search dogs get free drugs to play with too.
All in all its not a bad old life really, you retire at eight years old and your handler is supposed to give you all of the money that he's been saving up for you but all the ones that I know don't do that and the dog never asks for it, its a sort of perk for being the handler
