How much impact do you think a coach has in 12 games?

Indeed. What's clear in Funers first 12 games is that we look like serious contenders for relegation

RIP MUZZA!!
The big difference is Muzza was a seasoned well travelled coach and his backroom Team were top notch as well.
Furner needs at least 1 Quality no2 and imo a specialist defensive Coach.

You would never see a Murray side simply not compete - that is about attitude nothing to with quality. Murray's side got beat yes but not because they gave up - this Leeds side gives up when it gets tough

Sure.
But the original point was about a coach coming in and making an impact. People forget when Murray arrived in 1998, Leeds had finished 5th in the league in the previous season, and already had a nucleus of good players like Harris and Blackmore. Murray did get many players to punch above their weight, but he also added two shrewd signings in Brad Godden and Marc Glanville - not unlike the recent signings of Hurrell and Merrin.
The difference is that Furner has inherited a team that were already at the bottom of the league, and had been neglected for some years. While I had hoped this year's team would be better than it has been in terms of results and on-field attitude / defence, I do think we have to be patient with Furner at least, if not some of the players who are letting the team down, and have been doing so since the days of Brian Mac. Hopefully with a few players back from injury plus new signings like Seumanugafai Leeds will keep picking up wins, if not go on a proper winning run (too much to expect given recent form?).

Not blooding new kids?
From our current squad how many 'kids' made their debut under McDermott?
Walker
Singleton
Ward
Handley
Golding
Sutcliffe
Oledski
Smith
L Briscoe
And How many did he play that have moved on from us?

Spot on. Which is where a coach can make a difference. Forget comparing players etc.

Except the players Murray inherited already had a good attitude - a basic prerequisite for most professional RL players. I'd imagine even Furner expected this before he arrived. What Murray added was a new style of play built on aggressive defence. I don't think our current squad (again) possesses players with these attributes, especially in the forwards.
Any discussion of the team's current plight that doesn't involve looking at the players is short-sighted, impressionistic, and ignores the bulk of the evidence available to us.
The coach is not a magician, nor is he the person making mistakes on the field. Letting Furner go now after such a short period of time in charge is not the Leeds way IMO.

So it begs the question - what is the point of a coach? If you have a good enough set of players with the correct skill set and attitude the coach has very limited influence. A good coach must add some value and the very least he can add is: a team as fit as appropriate and with the correct attitude. Murray's teams both had those qualities. Murray had a few plodders too: Cummins, Hay, Lawford, Kemp, Sheridan etc
