| Quote William Eve="William Eve"The sport may well end up paying a calamitous price for this shambolic licensed, 14 team, top 8 play-off structure when it was obvious way back in 2008 there weren't enough resources and talent to provide a legitimate and competitive 12 team competition, never mind the utter joke of a 14 team one! How to reward mediocrity, render the vast majority of the season as utterly meaningless and screw the game completely in one easy lesson...
One of the most enthusiastic advocates of that structure knew he could count on an unrivalled degree of idiocy among his own customer base once he'd helped guarantee his club got to coast along for 4 more SL tag sessions a season against newly-provided whipping boy SL rabble. Such idiocy among the customer base has matured to such an unquestioning level of obsequiousness nowadays that a 52-36 victory is greeted as [i"a great performance... a refreshing change... a good win... solid... plenty of positives"[/i, etc.
Upcoming games against Wakefield, Salford and London ought to have SPECIAL OCCASION written all over them already.'"
Agreed, the worrying part for me is the ever growing dependency across SL for over the hill UK players, Morley and Meli to Salford is truly horrific, I'm not doubting your view that the pool of talent is too small to sustain 14 teams, the more concerning is with this structure, with this endemic lack of strategic vision we will never know!!
It's a sad state for the game I love.

| Quote Brian McDonut="Brian McDonut"A truly dire advert for Super League and the way the game is being run, Widnes were catastrophic and the fact Leeds weren't much better for 50 mins tells its own story.
For the first time I am starting to worry about where this wonderful sport is heading.'"
You may have a point about bottom dwelling teams but what exactly do you want "Super League and the way the game is being run" to to do about Leeds?

Do grown ups make up childish user names and post petty comments?
There are some real concerns about the lack of competitiveness in some games and the high score lines, something I hope is addressed in the potential restructuring of the league's. Trying though to gain some credibility and pointing the finger at others when it doesn't come is hypocritical when you carry on as you do.

Last time I checked, not only were the bottom dwelling teams rewarded points for their mediocrity in SL, but so were Leeds and the rest. So how about a game being structured in order that mediocrity is discouraged? A 12 team SL, top 5 play-off system and return of P&R would be a start.

12 is 2 too many IMO, but the commerical tail wags the dog.
Ten teams will concentrate your best 200 players into the competition, 150 or so of which would then be eligible for the national team.
Games like the recent London-Salford one have no place in an elite competition. Likewise games where one side can effectively clock off after 50 minutes with the job done.

OR Just cut it off at 12 and axe this promotion and relegation just like the NRL, focus on building a solid competitive 12 team league without the threat of relegation. (Or cur to ten with the view to bring in two current or new teams over the next 3 - 5 yrs based on merit and business support - then cut it off)
Create a better revenue stream for the Championship and build this again to be a more solid competition. Good players wil make the transition up from the Championship.
Dual registration could actually be a good and bad thing depending on how it is used, but if the SL doesn't bring back Academy system then the Chanpionship has to look like the Toyota Cup in the NRL and you should force the hann to partner each club with another.......
All options will some people off but rather than ths YO YO diet we are having with league structure, licence's and relegation and promotion, make a sensible decision and focus the energy.....

| William Eve and others are doing the self same thing those who run rugby league have been doing for years. We have an issue with playing standards at some clubs so instead of addressing that lets tinker with the number of teams in the league, the structure of the league and cross our fingers that addresses the issue. It won't.
We've been messing around with the number of teams, the structure of the l3ague and other peripherals for years without tackling the real issues.
