Agree with this.

Mock all you like but we could do worse. It's more likely that I'll be Saints' next coach though.

| Potter was badly done to here. Our kids would have been in a better position now for a start if we had kept him over Simmons and Rush.

Very true. If you remember back, Potter was grossly unpopular due to the style of rugby we were playing. It was all about defense, our attack was horrific. We went something like 20 games without scoring 20 points I seem to remember. It just wasn't the Saints way and he was fired.
Rush and Cunningham was an enormous mistake, the club panicked and got rid of a coach they should never have appointed. Rush then did away with the progress Gaskell and Lomax had made and could easily have ruined the development of several of our younger players, as none of them have progressed this season. When Royce was fired, we should have brought Brown in. If not, a proper coach should have been appointed, who could have nurtutred the younger players, rather than simply dropping most of them.
Royce and Rush have also continued Potter's legacy of boring, playing the percentages rugby. But is this their fault I find myself asking? Or is it due to the limitations of the squad they have at their disposal? We've been over how awful our recruitment has been, so what exactly is there for these coaches to work with? We have the worst set of 1-5 backs in Super League's top half, we have no halfbacks (We do have Gaskell but stubbornly refuse to play him) and a solid, but often out enthused and dominated pack. How are they supposed to play an entertaining brand of rugby with that squad?

We managed very well for 2 games this year, so it shows the squad is capable.
5 straight run ins and a mediocre kick is a coaching decision (plan B = 4 straight run ins and a mediocre kick).
This squad is well capable of better. They are a top 4 squad. Freeing them of the shackles of 'safety first' coaching instructions would show this. As it did in those infamous two games.

Completely agree. These players are more than good enough to win trophies. It's not like any other teams are stacked with wizards. I mean, who is the best centre of the top four? Goulding? (Don't anybody dare suggests Atkins) Goulding is solid but he's hardly the kind of players that's got a chasm between him and what we've got. There are a handful of players that are better than what we have but certainly pack wise there aren't many that are an upgrade on what we have i.e. would anybody really swap Soliola for a forward at Wig, Wire, Cats, Leeds etc?

| Quote Backwoodsman="Backwoodsman"It's time somebody gave Darryl Powell the Fetherstone coach a try at a top club.'"
Powell coached Leeds for two seasons quite well if I recall getting quite far in all comps.
He was 'moved' sideways for Tony Smith but many would argue he'd started the improvements that led on to much success.

I agree, for all this talk that we need a new prop, we've got a decent set of 5, plus Soliola and now Manu in the sencond row.
Rather than sign another prop, we may just be better buying a rocket to stick up the of our current players.
The team desperately needs one type of player - someone who organises, distributes and can kick out of hand. Everything else can be acheived with gameplan, coaching and motivation.
