| Quote Towns88="Towns88"I remember a couple of years ago, when it was hot for a few weeks in succession, the officials would allow players to take in drinks after 20 minutes and 60 minutes, for about 90 seconds, didn't notice this happen yesterday or throughout the weekend. but was thinking, why the hell not do it every game, not saying the heat was linked to Adrian's condition, but a drinks break in each half could benefit the pros who put their bodies on the line each week'"
You make a very good point. Linked to Purtell's heart attack or not, RL is an intensive game played in the summer months. It's been bloody hot this last week and it would make sense that when conditions are as they have been the game is played in quarters rather than halves. Yes, this might break the flow of the game a little, but that's a small price to pay to not see a player collapse on the field isn't it?

| I don't have any problem with drinks breaks if the powers-that-be think they are warranted, it's the suggestion that lack of breaks here did or may have caused Adrian Purtell's heart attack that I think is out of order. Especially when it's been specifically reported that what caused it was a blockage in an artery.
The question of drinks breaks should not be linked to Purtell's illness, and that's what's OT, but if you think it's fair to imply that the RFL did or may have caused it by not allowing drinks breaks, then carry on.

Agreed. Hope Adrian recovers well.

Yeah, but that's not what he said. He never implied the RFL were at fault, just that it would have been more sensible to have drink breaks for the players

| Wishing Adrian Purtell a speedy recovery. I hope he is able to grace our great sport once again.
Although not as serious as the Muamba incident, the potential was obviously there and as such I hope the reaction from the RL fraternity is as good as the support and reaction showed in fussball.

See?'"
No, and neither do you. He used the common idiom "I'm not saying xxxx ... BUT"; we're all familiar with it, you are, and it implied that there may well have been a link. (He wasn't saying there definitely [iwas[/i... BUT"icon_wink.gif.
Otherwise, he's randomly thrown drinks intervals in even though he thinks it's got nothing to do with the thread. And on the basis that it clearly hasn't, that's my last response on this point.

| Yeah, luckily it isnt SO FAR as bad as Fabrice Muamba. But still we should pray for him and his family and hope he gets well soon.
I echo all previous comments

It certainly appears that way doesn't it.
My thoughts are with Adrian Purtell and his family and here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
