Can't see Wakey fans being happy with that. Like us they have seen a price increase in ST and for Webster to effectively throw in the towel already would be a slap in the face for their fans. Wakey are only 4 points off the top 8. Could easily sneak into the top 8 with a run of form.
Seems to be some unrest with some of their fans regarding Webster. I don't think he's a bad coach, but I think he (and possibly their chairman) has allowed their injury situation to become an excuse. Both seem to have obsessed slightly to how much salary cap they've had playing :s
Fans just want to their team to have a dig, but having read their board, seems the players and coach are happy to accelt defeat as they have injuries.
Think it is hard for the SL to concentrate on the middle 8, as things can quickly unravel for them. They start losing heavily and you lose the fans and team/club spirit. They have a good team on paper, but the game isn't played on paper.
If the split happened right now, Wakey could be vulnerable, losing heavily and unrest on the terraces whereas Leigh/Bradford both have feel good factors around their clubs.
But there is A LOT of rugby to be played between now and then. Wakey could go on a winning run and make the top 8, the wheels could come off for us and Leigh.
We just need to keep winning, keep improving every game and keeping players fit and healthy.

With regards to the salary cap situation, it's not just a question of how much you spend but how wisely you spend it.
Bradford for example, IMO, have spent their cap wisely and have brought in a good squad with a lot of depth who are, in the majority, on the cusp of hitting what should be their prime years of playing so you've got what is a strong core of the team for the next 5 or 6 years.

It's hardly a ringing endorsement for Wakey fans to buy a season ticket, is it? Round 9 and their coach is already prepared to sack off the remaining fixtures up to the league split.
I seem to recall Webster making some comments during pre-season that, rather than go for a larger squad, they were going to bring in quality over quantity. That's great if you can keep them all fit for the majority of the season, but in reality that doesn't happen very often. It was always a dangerous game imo, but it's not over for them yet by a long shot. They are still favourites to stay up, and if their injury woes are behind them by the time we reach round 23 then they will be tough to beat.

Can't see the fans buying in to a philosophy of preparing for later and that's going to have an impact on crowds. Major blunder. What would the players think now.....it's ok to lose.
