This hasn't been done by a rugby league club to date and Widnes are putting it in place.
An extract from the flier given to me at the game.
"Today we are launching the "Viking stronghold" a genuine club membership aimed at delivering the Viking's stratergy and protecting and nurturing a lifelong bond with our supporters, old and new. The membership aims to make the sport affordable by spreading the cost and benefits throughout the whole year and delivering fabulous value for money. Membership will entitle fans to attend all home games in Super League and inital rounds of the Challenge cup.
Membership benefits will also include a free exclusive Viking stronghold retro shirt, electronic matchday programme, team sheets by text, Board member recognition as well as many, many other exclusive offers and opportunities. It also has no minimum period, you really can leave if you consider that the club is not delivering value, although we would welcome your patience!
In order to commit to 2012 expenditure it is vital for the club to understand our potential revenue. We really need a minimum of 7,000 members to join us in order to commit to a recruitment stratergy utilising the full salary cap. Normal membership will be £17.99 per month, early bird offer for those joining before 31st May will be £15.99 per month until November 2011. Current season ticket holders will enjoy exclusive discounts if they pledge to join paying only £13.99 per month by May 31st 2011. these offers are guaranteed for three years and will not be subject to any joining fees.
Interesting idea which i think we will pull off. also for all those people asking what would happen if SOC left Widnes, this would help us maintain a sustainable Club.

| It’s a very interesting commercial model – normally, you produce a good or a service and then hope that people see the value and purchase
With this statement “We really need a minimum of 7,000 members to join us in order to commit to a recruitment strategy utilising the full salary cap” they are essentially saying pay for the product and then we will develop it
Anyway – seems like an interesting initiative, I hope it works for them as a strong Widnes can only be good for Rugby League

| At least it is a positive promotion.
Let's hope it pays off.
Now it's down to people of Halton to put up.

| How much are season tickets for other clubs? As i'm a season ticket holder i will now be paying just under £168 a year. I know Bradfords and Huddersfields are cheaper but what are other prices like?

| An 'electronic matchday programme' sounds a good way for clubs to save money, but I'd rather have the real thing to keep!

| Think the cheapest one at harlequins is about £115.
Cheap as for London.
And yet they still can't get many along.

Is that seated or standing? Im assuming there is a price difference there.
And with the Membership you get other perks, Maybe not so big taken singulary but when you add it all up its a good deal.
I will have 3 people in my house signing up.

Just under £17 a game at the full cost and just under £14 at the cheapest, not exactly expensive is it?
Not to mention the type of rugby you pay to actually see compared to say the like of Harlequins.
