[iSalford Red Devils can confirm that full-back Gareth O’Brien will join Betfred Championship side Toronto Wolfpack (subject to RFL approval).
At the end of last week the Club were approached by Toronto with an official offer for Gareth. The Club made Gareth aware of the interest and he informed the Red Devils he did not wish to leave. This offer was turned down and it was reiterated to Toronto that Gareth was not for sale on the basis the Club neither wanted nor needed to sell.
Representatives for the player returned the next day requesting permission for Gareth to speak to the Wolfpack.
The Red Devils while disappointed in this sudden change of heart but, not wishing to retain a player who was not 100% committed to Salford Red Devils, granted the appropriate permission.
Salford Red Devils then issued an undisclosed fee for the transfer which was met and the player has since agreed personal terms with the Wolfpack over the weekend.
Everyone at Salford Red Devils would like to thank Gareth for his service. The full-back stepped up with an unforgettable moment – in the 2016 Million Pound Game – when the Club needed it the most and wrote himself into the history of rugby league in Salford.
While the Club is sorry to see Gareth leave, Salford Red Devils are keen to maintain a squad that is fully motivated and committed. With that in mind the Club are currently active in the market for replacements and will make further announcements regarding the strengthening of the squad in due course.[/i'"

This is now a great time to replace Salford with the Championship-topping London Broncos in a geographically enhanced Super League.
In addition the demise of Salford opens the door to an end of season fight between Toronto and Toulouse for the right to be promoted to Super League at the expense of Hull KR or Widnes. The loser of that momentous clash between Toronto and Toulouse will then be able join New York in a 14 team Super League in 2020 or 2021, along with Boston and either Hamilton or Montreal in a 16 team Super League in 2022.
I know that there will be many people on here demanding a third French club or Newcastle Thunder or Manchester Rangers or Bradford be included in Super League, but those desirable enhancements to our professional roster will have to wait for licensing to be restored.

London admittedly are flying in the Championship but it's a completely different level, they would get hammered in SL weekly.

Great post Jean, hopefully both Toronto and Tolouse are successful in the middle 8`s. Lets be honest Hull KR are terrible and although Widnes have had a decent start to the season i imagine they will come shuttling down the table like a led balloon as the season progresses.. Catalan will only improve, and improve drastically with the squad full of talent they have.
