Quote RED LEAGUE="RED LEAGUE"A right of passage? I stood in the shed since the age of 5 when I was first taken by my grandad back in 1992 I've never had to or thought you had to so called earn my stripes? Or do you mean to stand with the turkey boys that's what you had to do? I'm sorry but 20 or so groups of men who like to have a sing song arnt the be all and end all. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how long you've been going how much you spend at the game how you dress how you sing what ever! If you go out of your way to support Salford RLFC then that's all that matters.
And optimist don't you remember 1995/1996/1997 seasons with the whole Viking hats being worn and tune being played over the tannoy they even sold little drums with REDS on them and a good few got sold and used at games even to this day we sing the Vikings tune, what's the difference between a Viking helmet and a jester hat? In my opinion it just makes the atmosphere more family friendly and it's also good for the kids.
In the coming years if things go our way were going to have hopefully thousands more fans coming through the turnstyles and tbh I don't think they'll give a rats ass what ave it, the optimist, walshy and the rest of the shed members club think.'"
Well if we are having a history lesson I started watching salford at the scoreboard end on and off from 8 in the late 80s/early 90s then I moved to the north stand from say 12 till 16 with my dad then after meeting a couple of people my own age I ventured into the shed back left corner and eventually moved towards the centre.
It doesnt make me less or more of a supporter than you I do agree with your its its supporting salford is all that matters statement and its really its how you promote the club to everyone you know and try and entice them in to supporting salford that is where my priority lie at the moment
My current count of "new fans" is 4 which is good imo I have a few irons in the fie so hopefully soon somebody else will bite and I can send another fan on the journey.
95/96/97 might be wrong but wasnt that our double 1st division championship win / cup runs when everyone was on the up you can get away with everything when your successful I do like the idea of bringing viking hats back its celebrating our heritage nearly much closer than a jesters hat
Im not bothered for the record what people wear at the match, ive worn a hawaini shirt, a flat cap, bar scarfs, afro wig, big England hat, sombrato and inflatable ref and big elton john glasses during my time watching salford but i am one of the more "eccentric" people in our group was all about having fun back then not anymore imo its eather people wanting to look cool or people who want to stand out in the crowd.
I dont go away from home anymore on a regular basis so Im not qualified to discuss our current away following so please dont put me im the same category as Walsh and Avit these boys are here week in week out following the boys all over the show.
I do think we need to look forward and not back and embrace change or we will die
