| Tricky one really. If you want a winger who can score from anywhere but a turnstile in defence then it's definitely Charnley. if you want versatility and decent defensive player then it's Riley.

| Charnley every day of the week. I'm a Riley fan but Charnley is the better alround attacker. Defensively I'm not convinced yet though.

| Charnley for me, imagine him outside Bridge or Atkins, he's guaranteed service and he would score far more than he would be at fault for conceding.

You could swap Charnley's name for Kevin Penny in that sentence!!!....
Seriously, both are good wingers, though short of top class....Both have weaknesses which opposition can exploit....I'd probably just edge towards Riley for his reliability, though if my other winger was a more 'defensive' sort, I'd edge towards Charnley.
Guess its all about balance, as both provide useful assets to any side.

| I don't think Riley has ever let us down. He is a great finisher in his own right too, I think he is a better all round player that Charnley. However, I think I would rather have Charnley on my wing outside Bridge.

| I'd have Ryan Hall over either of them, but I think Charnley could become world class. I'm not sure I'd say the same about Riley.

| If Riley and Charnley played for, let's say, Salford and were both out of contract at the same time which one would Saints, Wigan, Leeds and us be in for first to replace their current wingers?

| Riley all day long... The way this lad has knuckled down and really improved his game can only be admired, great finisher, can play full back although he does his damage on the wing and good in defence..People still think his defence is dodgy i don't see it anymore...
Charnley is still a very good player but if you're asking me to choose? i choose Ginge...

Hard to answer its a very hypothetical question that one...

| Well my vote goes to Charnley. I must say I don't see the defensive frailty in Josh's game anymore. Last year he was a little suspect but he's worked on that and improved dramatically. He's becoming as safe as houses under the high bomb and in terms of tackling he's very strong. He's still caught out in defense from time to time as all wingers are. Even the infallible Ryan Hall is court out of position on occasions. But the credit should go to to the attacking team for forcing that situation IMO. Any winger is after all at the mercy of those inside him.
I like Riley, but feel Charnley has more potential. I certainly see Charnley moving to centre in the not too distant future.
