| i know it's not in keeping with the 'brand' of warrington wolves, but it would be nice if the club would do a retro merchandise line using that logo/crest, the old wolf head surrounded by the barb wire, you still see some people wearing some of the baseball jackets and bench coats (syd packer i'm talking about you) and some of the old style caps, it's a good logo. And a possible alternate design me walking about wearing stuff with a little blue and yellow triangle all the time.
I would imagine a lot of the old school early 90's supporters would jump all over these. IIRC it had WARRINGTON with RLFC underneath it, wouldn't take a huge amount of effort to change that to WOLVES.

| The wolf is taken from the Warrington Coat of Arms. The reason it was used in relation to the Wire is that the wolf was known to have roamed around the Wilderspool area.

Thats a good idea why not e-mail the club? Wouldn't like to see the old badge changed but a limited range of retro merchandise running alongside the existing kit would be great.

We've dealt with the 'Wolves' thing many times. Copyright can't be claimed in 'Wire, Wires, Wire-pullers' or anything so public-domain so if the club wants to maximise benefit from ads, sponsorship and merchandise they need a new logo/identity, hence Wolves. Legally its also probably not a good idea to market more than one 'official logo' - like the previous wolf head design, as this could be used by counterfeiters to claim that there is 'confusion in the public mind' as to the copyright status of 'insignia' and goodwill associated with the club.
All technical stuff, but vital to protect revenue, and we all want the club to maximise this, don't we?
An occasional foray into the past - such as the retro shirts - does not damage your rights, but you have to be careful because there are some right villains out there.

| Quote Natters="Natters"For me Warrington RLFC will always be The Wire and the 'Wolves' will just be a cheap gimmick brought about by Sky TV.'"
Agreed. I absolutely hate it.
Fair enough the gimmick worked for Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos - their fans do seem to like it - but I have NEVER heard a chant of "Come on you Wolves" or anything similar from our fans and I hope I never do. The only place in England I'd expect to hear that is Molineux (or a Wolverhampton Wanderers away end at another ground for the pedants!)
We are Warrington RLFC and our nickname is The Wire.

| The kids supporters club was called the Wolf Pack long before the super league era so not sure if PC should be getting the credit.

| I always refer to Warrington as Wire/Wires, as well as Northern for Bradford. Its something i've always done. Not keen on the Americanism of team names.

| Don't like the name Wolves, but at least its one of the better ones. Some of them like Wildcats and Giants sound ridiculous.
Traditional names like Hull FC, Hull KR and Saints are the best.
Will always be 'The Wire' for me anyway.

| Quote Big Ask="Big Ask"At the birth of Superleague where did the name Wolves come from, and were there any other alternative contenders at the time?'"
Warrington Widgers was an option I believe, however the Super League said there was already one team of bell ends in Wigan so we had to leave that one alone.

I heard it once.
Cas away, think it was at the end of the 2001 season....some bloke must have got into the PA system box and goes "come onnn you Wooolves" which blasted out over the tannoy.
One of the most random things to happen at a Warrington match....if you're going to crash the DJ box, what a random thing to shout!
