Quote Kevin Turvey="Kevin Turvey"Very similar to the first team win against Huddersfield. Led 18-4 at half time and it was only that close due to some handling errors when in the Saints half. Second half was further physical domination but fewer errors. An all round very strong team performance with highlights for me being some great attacking work by both wingers, Saltonstall and Ormsby, some great running and an all round strong performance from James Laithwaite and some unbelievably punishing defence from the Evans brothers.'"
Yes, all our forwards were absolutely brutal in defence, they looked like the first team. Laithwaite, Currie, Ben Evans, Broughton really smashed the Saints Runners. Then when we got to their 10m line they were simply unable to cope with the hard running of Laithwaite (2 tries ) and Currie ( 1 try ). Dwyer had an off day, losing the ball, then giving a wild pass (lost possession ), and finally arguing with the ref ( penalty) when we were in a good position close to the line. Still, everyone has an off day.
As KT said, this was a very good team effort with lots to enjoy. Saltonstall looked very dangerous and was constantly looking for the ball, Ormsby was typically belligerent and did quite a lot of work taking the ball forward, Shaw didn't miss a single conversion, Hellewell was a sound as a rock at the back. It is certainly the best game I have seen them play this year, and that was after quite a few silly errors.
MOM for me was Laithwaite who got through a lot of work and was always looking to pass / move the ball. He is obviously older and more experienced than Currie, but he looks to be maturing quickly and I look forward to seeing him in the first team next year.
