Why would he use a negative/insulting 'shortened' adjective as a compliment? Mong is a very unpleasant word, but I honestly don't think he meant it that way and clumsily shortened the word mongrel.



Price may have been a poor coach etc etc, but I'd never have him down as someone who would use this word intentionally to insult someone, especially as that word was used as part of a highly complimentary sentence about Longstaff.

I've just had a look on the Internet myself and you're right here that mong strength isn't short for mongrel strength and there doesn't seem to be anything on mongrel strength. There is something on mong strength which isn't the nicest.



I don't think Price has intended any insult, but perhaps mixed up his metaphors whichever they may be. I thought I'd heard the term mongrel strength before , but as you say, there is nothing on the Internet about it.
