Ive heard them called smacks too, imagine going in a chippy and asking for smack? (obviously exclude Merseyside)

Not used the curry mile in nearly a decade, but when I did, I used this "rule of thumb".

If I see a place that's got plenty of Asian customers in it, I'll use it.

If it's clientele is virtually all Anglo-Saxon, I'll avoid it.

Not one for the veggies but when I first went the TT in the early 80's, chippy in Douglas sold (and still sells!) battered slices of black pudding ....... surprising how something so simple tastes so good ......
