If you like real ale another reason to get down to Leigh RU and see the reserves on 28th June:
www.leighcenturions.co.uk
Leigh Centurions have been delighted by the positive feedback and media coverage following the first of our “Community Event Games” earlier this month at Golborne Parkside.
Looking to build on this success Leigh Centurions will break new ground with our Reserves Team fixture against Midlands Academy on Saturday 28th June will be played at Leigh RUFC’s Hand Lane ground.
This event marks the latest move in the Centurions’ bid to establish and develop links with the Community Clubs in the area, having already staged fixtures at Leigh Miners, Leigh East and Golborne Parkside ARL as well as well as establishing new links with Leigh Cricket Club.
Centurions Director Andy Mazey said:
"The Board of Management have been delighted by the positive feedback press coverage which the inaugural event at Golborne attracted. Having spoken at length with club officials from Golborne there was an enormous amount of positivity and it was also good to hear it was financially rewarding for them, by way takings from gate receipts and raffles as well as increased revenue over the bar and also food sales. It truly is rewarding for our club to know while we are spreading the word and showcasing our stars of the future in the wider community we are also putting something back into the grass roots game which has produced so many professional players down the years and will continue to do so.
Moving on planning is now underway for the next ground breaking event this summer, when we take the reserve team on a short trip to our Community Partners Leigh RUFC on June 28th.
I would urge as many of our loyal supporters to get down on the day and enjoy what promises to be a fantastic event. Communication between our two clubs is ongoing and we are hoping to make this day the very best it can be so come on leythers make sure to come along and join in the fun!”
Les Thomas, Youth and Community, Leigh RUFC commented:
"It is a great honour to host one of the Leigh Centurions reserve games as we don't believe the rugby code matters, what is important is that the players are proud to represent our town and respect the values of the two great games.
The majority of club are supporters of the Centurions but we do also have a few Wigan, St Helens, Warrington and even Leeds followers which is direct result of our high quality real ale which be a challenge for the weak minded! I am sure it will be a great day"

| Can you have real ale on tap that's only served once twice a week maybe ? Serious question?

Depends on what company runs the event on a weekly 'one or two off' basis
If it's a company that has other outlets then the unsold beer can be sold via those outlets - as I would think does the keg beer that is unsold.
It's just a matter of transportation and the cost effectiveness of that.

| I have been known every so often to participate in a pint of real ale. There are sporting clubs that do sell it. It just means a bit of hard work in keeping it well, no point having real ale on if not kept in great condition.

I do, drink real ale and still owe you a pint, I'll be in the Legends' bar tomorrow if a rubbish mass produced synthetic beer will do. Still gets laughed about how easy I'd be to kidnap, couple of pints of real ale and someone being able to identify a Leigh shirt.
It would be perfect to get some cask ale on in the Legends', the place would be packed out every week for hours before kick off. I know they serve cask ale at Cougar Park, was disappointed this year when there was no Cougar Bitter, Bitter with Bite.

| Other clubs manage to sell real ale in bottles eg, Halifax and Hunslet. Not rocket science and long shelf life. Please take note Legends.

| The annual Bent & Bongs beer festival raises quite a lot of money for charity. Would one work to raise money for LISA, staged in the gym at the LSV over a weekend. We have a hotel for serious drinkers to stay, there are usually one or two tourist coaches there at weekends and staged the same weekend as a home match. Just a thought?
