Quote FredParky="FredParky"to call anyone who plays the game of RL a 'big softie' shows a lack of respect no one who pulls on or has pulled on a rugby league 'shirt' can be called a 'big softie' in any way shape or form, I would suggest people who do so say it to any players face.'"
Just saw the replies to my (apparently) poor attempt at humour, and I am a bit taken aback to be quite honest. Clearly what is intended to be gentle irony is lost on some people.
Perhaps its because Mick has had his detractors over the years that there was such sensitivity. If you could be bothered to read all of my posts in the last few years you would see I have generally been VERY supportive of Mick. I was really glad he re-signed. Far from thinking he is some kind of coward, I was really simply making a connection with Mills "and Boone" and another big guy that just happened to be Mick. Don't tell me you've never heard the phrase "oh he's just a big softie really"..or "he's a gentle giant" - thats all that was behind it. I even used speech marks to illustrate it - perhaps I should make more use of smilies or something.
It was an attempt, poor as it may have been, to have a little bit of fun about Mills' name, during a quiet period on the board. Why that suddenly has to be interpreted as a mortal insult is beyond me.
I can't apologize for what is simply an unintentional misunderstanding. Nobody that plays rugby league is soft - thats obvious.
