| Would rather us sign Liam Farrell up to a longer contract!

| It's a real shame that we lost both him and Andy in one swoop, a real shame. But if he continues, he'll make a fortune and probably be Englands fly half, playing in front of sold out 90k venues in Autumn internationals and World Cups for years to come. I think he was lost to league the second he moved down south with his dad. A shame, but I hope he makes it in union - another Wiganer ripping it up on the international scene is something to be proud of, after all.

Ah I get it. He'll be the next Jonny Wilkinson then will he. 7 tries in 86 tests and this makes for a Rugby Union legend. Dire sport, will never understand why Twickenham gets full for all their goal kicking contests.

Oh no me either, but the fact is they do, and if he does make it, he'll have that type of arena to look forward to.

| Suppose Dan Carter is the only fly half who scores a decent amount of tries aswell as goals. Its easy when your team is whacking every team they play pretty much

One of the only RU players I think could make it big time in league.
Wilkinson is and always as been a decent plodder who just happens to be a fantastic goal kicker. As bilko said his try scoring rate speaks for itself. He is an attacking player and has only scored a handful of tries. Sam Tomkins has already scored a similar amount for England RL.
If we were desperate to get Owen I think we would need his dad at the club as well. Would Farrell come for a coaching job?

Why on earth would we offer him a coaching job? We have the best coach in SL and SW is learning from the "horses mouth".
Faz was a fantastic player (one of my favourites since I have been watching Wigan) but there is no guarantee that he can/will cut it as a coach.
Then again, why would he want it? Look at Edwards- doing very well in Union thank you very much.

| We have had Ashton go to union and he's now an England regular.
No doubt Owen F will make it big time in the code.
My worry is that others will see that if they can do it and are so obviously talented compared to the rest in the game they may be tempted to follow.
Wigan have already lost Ashton, Thornley & Ford and although Owen was never officially on Wigan's books there's no doubt had his dad stayed at Wigan Owen would be here too. We have Jason Robinson's son at the club. What a waste of a space that is! There is no chance he'll see his Rugby career in League and we should never, ever offer him a contract. There will be other lads around who would dearly love to play for Wigan. Better by far to go with them than a player who will learn his rugby at Wigan, then leave and earn his money at Union!
There's talk of players going to the NRL, Union are scouting around on a regular basis.
We need a structure and incentives to make our best young players stay in League. Losing to one source is bad enough but two could be trouble if we don't do something about it.

How on earth do we know that Robinson's son will go to union? Wouldn't he already be plying his trade at union if he was set on leaving?

| We don't know for absolute certain that he'll go but it is reasonable to deduce that he will.
Jason learned his rugby in League then when he moved to Union he became the highest profile name in their game. No doubt the money came with it.
Why would he not want the same for his son?
To me he is simply setting his son on the very same Rugby path he took and I don't blame him for that.
I do feel though that Wigan would be far better off giving his slot to another lad who may well play his career out at Wigan and if not, in Rugby League.

I think it would be crazy to not take him into our academy system just because his dad (the best winger of the super league era) went from league to union, we don't know what Robinson jnr wants to do, best just to take the best young players on offer and do what we can to improve and retain them rather than trying to guess at what they have planned for the future. If Ali Lauititi had a talented son who took up union, do you think their clubs would stay well clear on the basis that Ali converted? Doubt it.

I might put that comment up on my wall with the title:-
Fantastic quote from brain dead league fan who has difficulty in accepting the success of Rugby Union in England and who finds solitude in repeating the age old "League is tougher, has more tries etc" argument.
I'm a fan of both codes and surely you can see why a player would want to switch to Union based on the status of both games these days?
Chris Ashton will probably regard his switch as the best decision of his career, as will Jason Robinson.
