some really bad decisons by the ref didn't help 5 penalties on the bounce an some wrong calls pegged us back.

The Hoff was outstanding. Worked like a Trojan in defence and carried the ball strong.



I am surprised that there is such an argument going on about Stains forward pass TBH. Lets not forget that there is no way Wellens was tackled behind the line which resulted in Carmonts try from the Drop out. In the end I thought the result was a fair one and TBH I thought Stains were gonna pinch it. 1st game of the season and there were a huge number of positives to take from the game.............unfortunately if discipline doesn't improve then I fear the Champions tag won't last to long !



The game should have been over with 15 minutes to go but credit to Stains. They showed a huge determination to get back into the game. Roby, Puletua and Soliola were immense for them.

I think some of the "wrong calls" got you into that position in the first place. Tge drop out for the third try, and the dissallowed Shenton try were both very contentious. Swings in roundabouts.

Agreed, but they shouldn't get them wrong so often.

It looked it but your last try came off a drop out that never was. I think the game was pretty even. Your defence was awesome and held us up over the line 4 times.



I thought both teams did pretty well with it being first game of the year and straight in to a intense derby.

Some positives: Our defence for 65 minutes, I mean, WOW! Saints were never going to score if we'd have kept the intensity up like we did in the first 65. The lads all working for each other so that our line was never breached, I loved it! We got complacent near the end, but trust me, Madge & Wane will have them for that this week in training, and we will learn from it.



Credit to Saints never say die attitude, with a makeshift HB combo, they snatched a draw, and could have won it, right at the end. Draw was probably the fairest result, really, as much as i'd have liked to have seen a Wigan win. How long is until Good Friday?!

What people have to be aware of is that this Saints pack is probably the best one we'll face this year. We were going at them without Fielden and with an interchange down. Coupled with the fact that we had to defend for most of the first half and we were always going to tire towards the end of the game - they're very fit, but they're not super human.



I don't think we were helped by the ref trying to hand the game to Saints - the Eastmond knock on and the forward pass for Meli's try being prime examples, but you expect that when playing teams like Saints.



All in all we didn't lose, the team looks as good as it did last year - with Lima and Hoffman being obvious improvements over Bailey and Feka. We'll be there or there abouts for all the trophies at the end.

You aren't seriously trying to claim that it wasn't a forward pass are you? No matter what rule you want to spout it was forward.



Don't want to blame the ref as we only have ourselves to blame for not finishing you off. Credit to you for hanging in there.

That's just it though, the defence Can't keep up the intensity for 80 minutes, it's not humanly possible to have fitness levels to sustain the numbers in defence and still have enough in the tank to attack. Wigan are working so hard in the opening 20 minutes they don't have enough left to see the game out. The coaches can shout all they like at the players about not closing the game down but the fact is if they are they are asking to much. You need to find a happy medium between the two.

We could say your last try shouldnt count as it wasn't a drop out, Shenton should have been given the try as no way it went forward!
