| Quote Magic Superbeetle="Magic Superbeetle"I'm not looking at any further statistic because I don't have time to - as much as I'd like to compile a full model on the matter, life gets in the way. It's not any statistic, I've given my reason why I used the statistic I did and you yourself said it was a fair point.
You can ask "but whose perception is it" all you like - but it's clearly a common held belief amongst fans outside of your club. I think Wigan play closer to the line than other clubs, the stats I provided backed that up. I've not accused Wigan of being dirty or anything else, but I can understand how people interpret the citings as such (that doesn't mean they're right).
If wigan as a club don't want to be accused of "thugby" they need to step in line with the number of citings (the number of times they get close to stepping over the line) with other clubs - whatever that takes.'"
Why would they need to look at the number of times "they get close to stepping over the line"? I don't see your point. The line is drawn where it is for a reason (i.e. that it isn't foul play) so why should they look at addressing play that's within the rules of the game. Shall we also look at addressing incidents that were close to being cited? And then incidents that were nearly close to being cited? Then incidents that were almost nearly close to....well I think you get the point! The rules are set out. Play within them and that is fine regardless of what some fans perceive. To be perfectly frank, if we listened and, God forbid, acted on what some fans perceived we'd have Ben Flower arrested and put in jail (and even worse!) by now.

| Quote Northampton_Saint="Northampton_Saint"Very poor comeback matey but never mind - I know it's a big step up to the big leagues when you're taking on the likes of me and not everyone's up to it. At least you tried and will never look back in years to come and wonder "what if?". It's better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all.

Poor comeback? You were grammatically incorrect in a post that was inferring other people were 'mindless'. The two definitions of irony below might interest you as you clearly have trouble understanding the concept!
•a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result.
•a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions is clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.

He's basically been on sky all week telling us it could be a big score and showing us his boring stats on how Wigan are better than saints.
He's gone AWOL now tho

Well, the season is over so he's hardly likely to be on sky is he? Maybe he'll pop up on the darts coverage with an apology to you all. His job is to present stats. That's a part of sky's coverage.
Stats are something we all use to back up our arguments from time to time. Wigan scored most points and conceded the least over the season, so the stats are likely to show Wigan as being better than the rest. FWIW I think the stats are overdone as the only one that counts is the score at he end of the game.
I personally am pleased for James Roby who for me should have been MoS. a hooker who plays the full 80 minutes, not someone who comes on when the defence is tiring. I am also pleased for Nathan Brown who shut all the hypocrites up on the Saints board who said he was no use. Likewise all the Saints 'fans' who said Wello should have retired. I think you should start a thread saying sorry to these guys because they delivered success and a good number of 'fans' were badly wrong.

Rumour is that he has been phoning Sky since the big game, demanding to be allowed to bore people with statistics about how wonderful Stains are...

We both know that will never happen. He's a goon until he dies and a very boring one at that.

| Quote SuffolkCherryPie="SuffolkCherryPie"I'm new to this forum and have been quite shocked at the perception of Wigan. Are we really a team of thugs? I know MM has done some pretty poor efforts and obviously Flower the other night, but I can't think of any other Thuggish acts this season. I've seen posts about our method of tackling, but if it's illegal, why would we be allowed to do it? Someone on the gloating thread said our style was boring. I've really enjoyed watching our attacking play this year, especially when you think we lost Sam this year. Most Tries, Most Points and Most Clean Breaks enough said. Most of you guys watch us every week, unlike me with only the televised games, hope you can enlighten me!'"
To be honest, the tags of thugs and boring are probably a bit harsh.
The boring is a reference to the structured game that Wigan play ........ some fans prefer a more fluid, off the cuff, improvised style, where the ball carrier takes a few more risks.
The thug tag is probably because of their physical and aggressive tackling style; and is pssibly also linked to Wigan having had some notorious "hard men" over the years (Goodway, Skerrett, Newton etc); it might even be older fans remembering when Shaun Wane was a player, and in an era when a lot of biff was accepted, he could dish it out with the best of them.

As could many others, and yet I don't see the multitude of threads slagging off Warrington (Boyd, Cullen, et al) or Widnes (Mills. Sorenson, Tamati, etc) or St. Helens (Nickle, Fogerty, etc).
People are all of a sudden fixated with Wigan about thuggery, just like they have forever been fixated with then through jealousy.

Took a cursory look at the stains board, i don't like to hang around there too long as it make me feel grubby, banned anyway.... But, i failed to notice a single thread about LH's cowardly attack to the jaw of "Mr Flower power", which came as no surprise whatsoever. I thought it might have deserved a thread, due to it being an action which merited a ban.
