| I read that as tryng to grow the game naturally rather than the rush to the top flight that has got the Crusaders into difficulty.

| Think that is a very well constructed well though out article. It is crazy to think an area like that has no professional rugby. I would welcome them into the pro game, starting obviously in the lower leagues, but one day who knows, although I also think the Cumbrian's need to put the politics to one side and make a real combined SL bid first.
Very similar mentality to the Borders and similar life ethic, but with the traditions set in the 13 aside game.

| When are us folk in West/East YorkshireLancashire and Cumbria and the idiots who run the game going to wake up and smell the coffee
The fact is RL is and always will be a regional sport. But what is so wrong with that it’s survived this long without the crazy dream of expansion
All the evidence is there Fulham etc Carlisle Mansfield etc Kent etc Cardiff
Celtic Scarborough Gateshead
When will we get the message that the vast majority of areas in the UK prefer Rugby Union and Football they may enjoy the odd game on sky but that’s not going to make them turn out week in week out and support a new club is it

I completely agree with you but one point that i think that you have missed out is that the people in the expansion areas who actually like rugby league will already support existing clubs and will not be able to support the new team and as everybody knows you can change everything else in life but your team.

| Why do the RFL try to expand the game in areas with no grassroots rugby league. When Cumbria which has a tradition of rugby league is left to struggle with no S.L. team. If some of the RFL's time and money had gone to the North West, instead of other failed and failing teams, I sure there would have been a better return on the investment.

Agree with you on the Cumbria thing jonh, but this (Borders) is ru territory and because of it's spartan population, they couldn't make anything other than amature ru work there.
I know this was only an article, but let's not put ideas in those big empty heads at Red Hall please!
We know they're only looking for an excuse to shoe horn another of this type of experimental club in, on the back of the roaring succes' of the previous ones!!!
A regional based super league in only around the corner if this madness continues!!!

I expect the RFL would love a Cumbrian franchise, but the politics between the clubs up there and the fans is what holds them back. Remember the Calder Team proposed by Lindsay etc? I expect you would get much the same reaction in Cumbria.

| Interesting question on the Drivers Jonas survey. Which 3 grounds would you like the magic weekend to be held at? Obviously I put Belle Vue, the Willows and Wheldon Rd.

Asking Barrow to merge with Workington and Whitehaven would be like asking Wakey to merge with FC and KR geographically can't see it ever happening.
