| Quote vastman="vastman"How the heck did Kear fail him. Although I agree with the general sentiment expressed, no way was Walshaw ready for SL in any sense in most peoples opinions when Kear was in charge. It's only this season he's shown some real promise.
It's a mistake letting him go in our opinions so we agree on that but let's not milk it.
'"
Kear failed him and the Academy GF winning team and any other juniors in the Youth system at the time because he totally undervalued, disregarded and undermined the youth structure at the club while he was here.

Forgot you are the expert on everything
That wasn't the point I was making if you could ever be bothered to read anyones viewpoint other than your own .Wallshaw was not ready to play SL when Kear was here and no other coach would have played him, he was to young and lacking a bit at the time. So you can say what you like about how you think Kear ran the academies but it's simply untrue to say he denied him chances, he didn't.
Also I'm getting tired of this twaddle regarding the GF team especially from you. You endlessly bang on to Cas fans about them flukeing a team together and having a lucky season, touch hypercritical or what. The truth is that's what happened with our academy team where the sum was greater than the parts. It was a team that gelled but didn't really have any true stars and as the players have got older it shows.
I remember the poster Jonh on here saying exactly what I just said. Whilst stating that the Wigan youngsters of the same age had already made the leap to SL standard which is why the Wigan academy appeared weaker and that Wakefield didn't have a great crop of youngsters. I hate to say it but he was bob on.
So please just swallow the bitterness and recriminations and accept it was a fun year but those lads were basically and sadly over achievers - and were not the RL equivalent of the Fergie foals.

| I actually think he WAS given the opportunity to prove himself.
I didn't quite think he proved it in previous seasons at secnd row but this season at centre I thought he was great.
Problem is, he is a running centre, just like Lyne is. Neither winger will score a bag of tries off them so maybe Webster decided his limit was 1.
Who knows. I wish him well and I think he will look great at Bradford. I hope they look after him better than we have.

No I don't, I think you've mixed me up with someone else, either that or you're making things up. Care to offer some evidence of my "endlessly" banging on?

That's laughable old boy, so by making my answer clear to read I'm not normal, give me strength!
Admit it, you did what you often do and jumped down the throat of a poster who dared to criticise one of your idols, you got caught out and couldn't wriggle out of it, so you resorted to calling names.
If you don't want to be challenged then stop being sanctimonious

Yes, sorry, allowed myself to get sucked in!
Sad to see Walshaw leave, Ithink given more time in either the second row, preferably, or centre he would have proved himself a valuable member of the squad

VASTY wigan had a lot of players playing who had not even got to first team yet.jack murphy, jack hughes, greg burke, sam powell, logan tomkins, tom spencer, jon molloy, matty russell. you say we didnt have a great crop of youngsters but we went down cas and ripped them to bits. who was playing for cas, holmes, thomson, clarke, arundel, milner, ben gledhill to name a few these were blooded the following year ours wernt so something went wrong with our development. chris annekin should hjave been made into an hooker, tom harrington out played callum watkins and knocked him all over. cain was talented but awkward to deal with. joel gibson nasty and tough as boots. cowling not looked after. greyson not looked after. wildie messed about too much.
adam slater messed about adam gledhill messed about. what kear did was bring in other acadamy products of the same age eg howarth and a couple of others this is where he let them down they were our own. in my eyes kear didnt know what to do with them they need to be drip fed in play a few games take them out again when they dip.
walshaw had one main problem leg speed not when in full running but reseting in defence and getting off his mark this was mentioned to kear and he did nothing. as for agar his comments when he was told he had good youth were im not here to polish terds.

| Sorry to say something about the topic of the thread rather than a fellow poster, but I think that having Walshaw as back up for Collis (and Lynne) may have been a good idea for next year.
Hopefully Collis will have an injury free season and play all year, meaning on average he'll have played half a season in each of the last two!
Definitely a bright prospect for the future, but as has been posted, we don't know the financial dealings behind the scenes and if he wanted too much / Bradford were willing to pay out of our range, then so be it.
If the Board have a plan, after the last year, I'm behind them all the way.
