maybe its 1 of say 10 that was made for matchday? and probably was never intended to be used for the game?

I understand that there were four matchballs used that day, but as you say it may not have been used. Perhaps there were more used in the the warm-ups.

Normally, Steeden limited editions, are done in batches of 50... There may have been less with the RFL's deal with them. I'm guessing at it being cleaned up, as it going a bit yellow-ish, as they often do when on display..?

id ov gone to 50 plus another tenner for postage no more. would have gone nicecly with my fully signed players and coaching staff 05 program
