Pretty sure that MOS is voted for by players so if sinfield has captained leeds to 6 GF wins but never been in the top 3 nominees then I'd say it's almost certain he's disliked by players

It's judged over the season and Leeds and Sinfield were average. Voting is done by the time Sinfield and Leeds come alive for the playoffs. It's about the season not just 4/5 games.

The better team on the night won. Ablett very underrated, was excellent, and my pockets are fuller this morning.

I'd have thought it should be about achieving an objective. Sinfield has dragged an ordinary team to notable success for several seasons through hard work , dedication and all of the other things that in my view would be prerequisites for someone getting the title of Man of Steel. If it's a popularity contest then perhaps it should be changed to "The nicest man in Super League". The fact that Sinfield isn't the fastest , biggest , most skillfull player in the game - by some distance - is all the more reason to recognise his achievment and contribution through MOS.
