| I went to the ground to pick my shirt up and noticed lots of work on the left as I drove out - is this what everyone's on about or can anyone shed some light as to what is happening outside the ground cheers

| Quote u45d="u45d"I`m fully supporting the camp at Barton , I`ve been down to the camp 3 times.
Peel have given I Gas permission to look for shale gas on the land they own from Barton to the Wirral. I really don`t want a highly dubious industrial process being carried out in the area where I live.'"
Thats the issue , most people are ignorant.
The process was invented in the 1950's and has been in use in the petro chemical industry since the late 60's.
As Oil & Gas reserves deplete , and the technique of Wireline Drilling has become commonplace the economic benefits of extracting gas from shale & Sandstone has become something that can no longer be ignored.
the technique is also used in mining for mineral extraction and that is where the mix up is occuring in information .
Firstly exploratory drilling needs to take place to see if there are reserves worth exploiting.
No issue with being cautious.but hadn't we better find out if there is actually anything down there before we man the barricades ?
choices have to be made as we cannot continmue to draw on Middle East & Eastern block oil & Gas reserves indefinately without further astronomical hikes in cost

Reminder, we get our Water from the Lake district , not artisan wells , or Barton Moss.

Surely that sentence should be in the malaprop thread.

What if it is a very well constructed artesian well built by a craftsman?

Good post.
The trouble with a lot of people today is that they get their outrage fed to them via poor media or social media. Without bothering to find out actual facts. If I feel like a bit of outrage I'd make sure I knew what I was talking about before, if you pardon the pun, digging a big hole for myself.

After hearing John Blaymires (I GAS Chief Operating Officer) getting very excited in a radio interview on the thought of finding shale gas reserves , I`m more than pleased the barricades are manned.

It depends who you do trust, because I know just because these company's who are doing this are legit it doesn't mean they are truthful. And if fracking was safe why would people be protesting in this first place? You don't see many protesting over electric pilons or other similar energy sources, people protest because they know how things are really going to happen and what effects they have?
Tell me something why arent they doing surveys in London on fracking? It's because they know the damaging effect of the process so what do they do go up north and put people up their in danger.

I trust scientists who know what they're talking about.
People protest all the time without having full grasp of facts. Look at those people who refused to vaccinate their kids with the MMR jab because a Doctor lied (And was struck off) about links to Autism. It's been proven there is no link. Yet you will still find people who think they know better, even after being told the truth. Sticking with a vaccine theme, look at the current anti-vaccine brigade. Due to their utter stupidity we are seeing a resurgence of childhood diseases that have not been around for decades.
As for other forms of energy protests, I can't move for leaflets about protesting windfarms. If people can find a reason to protest they will, usually with a selfish self interest at the heart of it.
How many people have been hurt or suffered serious injury (Not related to actual gas workers) because of fracking in the UK?

| I don't claim to be an expert, and I can see both sides of the argument. However, I don't believe any company will take a chance on polluting the environment, given the current 'blame' culture that we are infested with. How many billions did it cost BP for the Gulf of Mexico leak? Yes that was an accident (with hindsight you can always find some errors), but does it mean we should stop all off shore oil drilling?
