Indeed... I've not visited the land that time forgot since a wonderful day in April '82.... seems like nothings changed.

I have lived in West Cumbria for 13 years, i am Leigh through and through, been supporting them for nearly 50 years.

Whitehaven and most of the the other West Cumbrian Towns, Villages are very friendly and majority of the people i have met are true people, they can be a bit insular.

Every team have their Gob--ites, even Leigh, so please don't throw insults around until you actually get to know the people and where they live.

I have to agree with CL. Most people up here are decent people but as CL says they can be insular, particularly in and around the smaller towns and villages.



Having experienced the local amateur RL games it can get a bit like tribal warfare during the games but there are very rarely problems before or after, and it's usually the women that dish out most of the worst abuse.

I am sticking up for fans in general, you and others on here probably actually think most fans are OK but jump in at every opportunity with the usual phrases such as 'scum of the earth', it does seem a bit churlish not to say childish.

The Whitehaven game was the first Leigh Championship game I have missed this season due to being away on holiday.

To be honest if you have to miss a game then Whitehaven (away) would be most fans choice.

I'm sure that many Whitehaven people are the salt of the earth but many of their fans are (and always have been - in my 30+ years experience) a very well balanced bunch - having an equally large chip on BOTH shoulders. They should really try to lighten up and enjoy the game rather than exhibit the attributes of people who need to attend anger management classes.

Can they not see that their hostility towards visiting teams, fans and match officials alike is a serious discouragement for visiting fans to make the long trek up there and to put much needed cash through their turnstiles.
